We can only learn from the past if we are willing to read about the past. The articles that follow were in the daily newspapers all the time, and they reveal the sentiments of the time on the issues of race relations and segregation.

African Americans saw increased opportunities in service during
World War II, as opposed to World War I, where American soldiers refused to
fight alongside “People of color.”
 
The service opened up the chance for people of all races to see the fallacy of the reasons for segregation, which lead to the Civil Rights movement after
World War II in the 1950’s and 1960’s.
